Bass with 'air' that's musical, yet capable of LFE levels. Yeah - crank it up.
Outriggers will keep Alex in place and help you level him too.
An unmatched soundstage and extraordinary dynamics.
Balanced aural weight that's 3 dB more efficient with a .5 Qts for critical damping.
Eddie set a standard for musical transparency, spacial imaging and transparency. Alex set forth to follow that path, build on the DNA of Eddie, to create a bigger statement. The Alex prototype has achieved that goal.
No don’t get us wrong. Alex and Eddie coexist. There is no sibling rivalry between these two musical artists. But there are differences. With a second mid-bass driver, a dedicated subwoofer and mandatory bi-amping Alex takes the performance of Eddie to a new level. Of course that comes at a price.
If you can imagine even great spacial imaging and dynamic range than Eddie. With the second mid-bass driver and bi-amping there is a greater sense of ease in the top end that takes on an almost etherial quality. As a nice side effect, Alex is 3 dB more efficient. Finally, the subwoofer by itself, extends down to 19 Hz. More than that – without any equalization. If you never heard the ‘air’ around bass possible – not only will the hair on your neck stand up when listening to Alex – it might just fall out.
[Note: This is a production prototype. The production version will be piano black.]
There are a number of reasons Alex is a concert-worthy reproducer of music. Let’s start with our proprietary Strat 1 planar midrange. It features the strongest neodymium magnets and the most rigid structure imaginable. And when you put a physicist who is a musician in charge of creating the F1 there are virtually no compromises.
Alex also features a tweeter with a moving mass of only 16 mg – something no accordion pleated tweeter can achieve. Dual mid-woofers also have a low moving mass and phase plug with the speed and phase coherency to achieve a seamless transition to the planar. And with dual mid-woofers there is 3 dB more efficiency and driver fatigue is all but eliminated.
Alex’ crossover is without compromise. Point-to-point wiring with proprietary silver coated multi-gauge wire with silver solder, along with expensive hand-matched Mundorf Supreme capacitors assure a transparent sound.
There is some extraordinary engineering that goes into the cabinet as well. Wall thicknesses and bracing are engineered without compromise. Try a knuckle wrap on that. [Be careful not to hurt your hand.]
All of this delivers an overall organic result – to deliver you-are-there performance levels – whether classical, jazz, rock or movies.
