EVOKE loudspeakers is proud to announce two new members to the family – Ruby and Alex.
The task was demanding. EDDIE had set a standard that had the critics praising his performance. So the goal was to take that DNA and create both a smaller and larger product that would make him proud.
The first product was to be RUBY. At about 12″ tall. This small 2-way features a smaller version of the Strat F1 used in Eddie. The Strat F2 extends out to 30 kHz just like EDDIE. The 5″ mid-woofer has the same engineering making the transition seamless. With the port on the front, placing or mounting on a wall is no problem. It’s even easier as RUBY has a 75 mm VESA mount on the back. There’s also a tweeter level control. Compared with EDDIE, the DNA is there. With a subwoofer, five RUBYs make a knock out home theater.
How to improve on EDDIE. That was a big challenge. ALEX was to be designed for reproducing anything from PPPP to FFFF with dynamics left to spare – and in anything from an average to large living room. To achieve that, a second mid-woofer was added. Both are in a sealed .5 Qts critically damped enclosure to match the speed and tambor of the Strat F1 driver. Then a 12″ subwoofer extends the bass to 19 Hz, flat. [That’s without any equalization to compromise the Q. ALEX must be bi-amped with an external crossover for the sub @ 24 db per octave.]
The result is astonishing. Imagine the staging, clarity and resolution of EDDIE. With the second mid-bass driver efficiency has improved 3 db. That and bi-amping allows the top end to be even smoother than EDDIE. [Something you to hear to believe!] And the separate woofer is so un-subwoofer like. It blends with the entire loudspeaker in a very organic way. It is not boomy or boxy. Rather it performs as the musician or mixer intended – all with air and dimension to those low notes you have never heard before.
